How to Accurately Measure Your Bust, Waist, Hips, and More
Welcome to our store! Discover amazing deals and top products today.
Accurate body measurements are the starting point for a made-to-measure dress. A tape held too tightly, a tilted hip measurement, or a mixed-up unit can change how the finished garment feels. Use this guide to prepare, locate the main measurement points, and check your readings before submitting an order.
Prepare your measuring tape and surroundings
Use a soft measuring tape with clear markings and a mirror, and ask a friend or family member to help if possible. Wear the underwear you plan to wear with your dress and light, close-fitting clothing. Stand naturally and breathe normally.
Check whether the product page requests centimeters or inches. Use one unit consistently and record the date. Your body can vary slightly from day to day, so use recent measurements that you have checked.
Where to measure your bust, waist, and hips
Measure your bust around its fullest part, keeping the tape level without letting it rise or dip. Follow the product instructions to locate your natural waist; the waistband of your trousers is not necessarily your waistline. Measure your hips around their fullest part with your feet together.
Do not pull in your stomach, hold your breath, or press the tape into your skin. If readings vary noticeably, repeat the measurement two or three times and check that the tape is level.
Record each measurement with its unit and date. If a second reading differs, check the tape position before taking an average; an inconsistent method can produce a misleading number.
How to measure shoulder width, sleeve length, and dress length
Shoulder width generally depends on the position of the shoulder points. Sleeve length must also be measured between the starting and ending points specified for the style. Dress length may start at the shoulder, waist, or another design point, so simply writing "knee-length" is not enough.
Follow the diagrams on the product page whenever possible. If the measurement points are unclear, contact customer service first. Do not confuse a body measurement with the finished length of a garment.
Common measuring mistakes
Angling the tape across your back, measuring over a thick sweater, checking only the front in the mirror, confusing inches with centimeters, and reusing old measurements can all affect the accuracy of your order.
Once you have finished, ask your helper to read the tape while you check and record the result. Review all numbers and units again before ordering.
Questions about dress measurements
Should I add extra room to my measurements?
Submit your actual body measurements unless the product instructions say otherwise. Wearing ease belongs in the garment construction; adding it to your readings can count the allowance twice.
Can I measure shoulder width by myself?
A helper is useful for keeping the tape on the specified shoulder points. If you cannot identify the starting and ending points, ask for clarification before submitting the measurement.
Check your measurements before ordering
Before ordering, review the DUVANZE measurement guide and keep a copy of the readings you submit. For an unclear measurement point, contact our team before checkout.
